LED magazine is a media partner for the inaugural LightSPEC West conference and exhibit, taking place September 21-22, 2022 at the Magic Box @ the Reef, Los Angeles. Our parent company, Endeavor Business Media, launched this new Lighting Group event to provide a learning and networking experience formatted to meet the unique needs of the West Coast architecture and lighting design community. Organized by top industry experts, the two-day conference program and exhibition covers a wide range of topics essential for building designers, owners and operators and includes networking events, site visits , product presentations and plenary sessions, presentations and round tables.
Led by lighting industry leader Clifton Stanley Lemon, the conference sessions are organized into three streams: Health and Environment, Design with Light, and Business and Economics. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics vital to today’s industry, including the future of work; evolving business models; buildings connected to the network; design for operation and maintenance; inclusive design, equity and environmental justice; the importance of views and daylight; design in the metaverse; lighting career paths; the importance of beauty and fun in design; and leverage building data in decision making.
“LightSPEC West seeks to transform conversations about the role of lighting and controls in the built environment and the value of technology-driven design to new levels of action not only in the execution of interior design spaces. engineering, but also in the business models that city officials, building owners and property managers use to quantify the results of lighting and construction progress,” said Lester Craft, group executive vice president of Endeavor Business Media. Technology.
Visionary lighting designer Thomas Paterson, founding director of Lux Populi, will deliver the September 21 keynote, “Craftsmanship and the Myth of Creativity”. He will urge audiences to reinvent outdated ideas of creativity and design and focus more on the holistic art of harnessing a lighting practice and creating a culture of excellence that utilizes diverse team skills.
On September 22, Judith Heerwagen, program expert at the US General Services Administration, Office of Federal High Performance Green Buildings, will deliver her keynote address, “Healthy Buildings and the Future of Work.” As a representative of the GSA, the largest real estate organization on American soil, Heerwagen will explore the connections between changing workplaces and building use patterns, climate change, environmental health issues, DEI initiatives and evolutionary psychology. As the real estate value of purpose-built office space declines in many sectors, building owners are newly tasked with defining how healthy buildings, including those with optimized lighting, views and daylighting, help manage the future of the modern workplace.
“While many industries may be centralized, exported or imported due to the volatile nature of capital markets, the construction industry – of which lighting is a part – remains inherently local,” Lemon said. “The LightSPEC West conference platform brings a much-needed new local approach to lighting industry events, addresses the industry’s most relevant topics, and facilitates meaningful conversations, targeted engagement, and valuable networking for industry stakeholders.”
